Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 14, 2026

Cocono takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains how we handle your data.

How Cocono Works

Cocono is an iOS plain-text bookkeeping app built on the Beancount format. You can create or import your own Beancount text files, parse ledgers, view reports, and edit data locally on your device. You can also use AI features to make bookkeeping and financial queries more efficient, including screenshot bookkeeping, voice bookkeeping, and natural-language financial search.

Cocono provides three ways to use AI features:

Local Models

In this mode, Cocono uses Apple Foundation Models to power part of its AI capabilities on device. Related requests and processing stay on your device. Cocono does not send your content to our servers or any third-party AI service.

This mode is available only on devices, system versions, languages, and regions that support Apple Intelligence / Foundation Models.

Cloud Models - Cocono Cloud

Cocono Cloud is our subscription service that lets you use cloud AI directly without configuring your own third-party API key.

When using Cocono Cloud:

  • Your messages are forwarded by Cocono Cloud to the relevant third-party AI service for processing.
  • We do not store, log, or retain your conversation content. Your data only passes through our service for routing to the selected AI provider and returning the result.
  • We do not use your data for model training, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing your AI response.

Cloud Models - Bring Your Own API Key

In this mode, you can configure your own API key and connect directly to the third-party AI service of your choice.

In this mode:

  • Your data is sent directly from your device to the third-party AI service you configure.
  • Cocono does not route, intercept, or store this data.
  • You choose which service provider to connect to and use that service according to its privacy policy.

Information We Process

Cocono processes and stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Ledger files and ledger content
  • The API keys you configure
  • App preferences
  • Locally generated reports, query results, and cached data

This information stays on your device by default. For cases that involve cloud transmission, see Third-Party AI Services below.

Third-Party AI Services

Data Sent to Third-Party Services

When you use the following features through cloud AI, related data may be sent to the relevant third-party AI service to complete processing and return results:

  • Screenshot bookkeeping: text extracted by on-device OCR and the list of account names in the current ledger.
  • Voice bookkeeping: text transcribed by on-device speech recognition and the list of account names in the current ledger.
  • AI Query Assistant: the question you enter and the relevant local query content needed to generate a response.
  • Account name translation or other text AI features: the text content you actively enter.

Cocono Cloud - Third-Party Data Sharing

When you use Cocono Cloud, the relevant data is first sent to our service and then forwarded to the appropriate third-party AI service for processing. We provide only the necessary request forwarding and result return capability, and we do not store your conversation content.

Cocono Cloud currently connects to the following third-party AI services:

ProviderPurposePrivacy Policy
OpenAICloud AI processing for non-Chinese scenarioshttps://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy/
QwenCloud AI processing for Chinese scenarioshttps://qwen.ai/privacypolicy

Bring Your Own API Key - Third-Party Data Sharing

When you use the bring-your-own API key mode, data is sent directly from your device to the third-party AI service you configure. Cocono does not participate in transit.

You can connect to services including but not limited to the following:

ProviderPurposePrivacy Policy
OpenAIGPT and related model serviceshttps://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy/
QwenQwen and related model serviceshttps://qwen.ai/privacypolicy
Other OpenAI-compatible servicesConfigured by youRefer to the privacy policy of the relevant service provider

Data Transmission Security

Data transmission between Cocono and third-party AI services uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.

In Cocono Cloud mode, data is securely forwarded through our service. In bring-your-own API key mode, data is sent directly from your device to your configured provider.

How We Protect Your Information

We use reasonable technical and product design measures to protect your data, including:

  • Prioritizing on-device processing for ledgers, OCR, and speech recognition
  • Sending only the minimum necessary data to third-party AI services
  • Using encrypted network connections
  • Minimizing server involvement and data retention
